THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The new chief of Vigilance, Manoj Abraham, said that Vigilance will no longer be like a caged bird and that corrupt officials will be afraid of Vigilance. He was speaking to 'Kerala Kaumudi' after taking charge at Vigilance Headquarters in PMG.

"Along with vigilance to prevent corruption, anti-corruption activities will also be carried out. I was not able to work freely as I was not a full-time chief. Usually, those seeking petty bribes were nabbed, while no action was taken against large-scale corruption. From now onwards, those getting involved in big frauds will also be caught. People will be aware that there is a Vigilance department. We will collect information from the people and catch the corrupt red-handed. Organized financial crime will be curbed. A meeting of vigilance officials has been called on Wednesday to discuss streamlining of anti-corruption measures," he said.

"Corrupt officials will have to fear. But smart officers should not be crucified. The number of 'trap' operations to ensnare bribe-takers in offices etc. will increase. Organized and premeditated bribery and facilitation will be prevented," he added.
