KARACHI: Pakistan captain Babar Azam has become the fastest Asian to reach the 10,000 runs mark in international cricket, surpassing former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s record. Azam scored his 10,000th run in the first innings of the first Test against Sri Lanka. Azam has taken 228 innings to complete 10,000 runs, while Kohli had completed the runs in 232 innings.

Globally, Babar is the fifth fastest batsman to score 10000 runs. West Indies legend Viv Richards holds the first place. Richards had completed the milestone in 206 innings followed by South African great Hashim Amla, who took 217 innings to reach 10,000 international runs.

So far, Babar has broken several of Kohli’s records. Babar ha earlier broken Kohli’s record of being the fastest captain to score 1000 runs in ODIs. Currently, Babar is ranked fourth in Tests. Last day, Babar took to Twitter to comfort Virat, who has been passing through a bad phase in his career, and said that 'this too shall pass'. The tweet had gone viral on social media. Virat Kohli had expressed his gratitude as well. Babar has earlier said that Virat is his idol.
