Heavy rain likely in the state till Wednesday, yellow alert in several districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of heavy rain in the state till July 20. Yellow alert has been declared in various districts. Yellow alert was announced today in districts of Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod and on Monday in Idukki, Malappuram and Kasaragod districts.

As per forecast, there is a chance of isolated heavy rain. A red alert has been issued at dams like Lower Periyar, Kallarkutty, Erattayar, Kuttiyadi, Moozhiyar and Ponmudi. An orange alert has been announced at the Peringalkuthu Dam. An orange alert has been announced for the Meenkara dam. Blue alert has also been issued for Neyyar and Mangalam irrigation dams.

Water is being released from Malankara, Siruvani, Kuttiyadi, Kallada, Karapuzha, Kanjirapuzha, Peechi, Maniyar, Bhoothathankettu, Moolathara and Pazhassi dams. So the residents should be vigilant. At present the water level in the Mullaperiyar dam has reached 135.75 feet. Following rains, if the water level rises to the maximum limit of 136.60 feet, water may be released by Tamil Nadu through the spillway.
