THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A long seat at a bus shelter, nearby the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET), being cut short by moralists is inappropriate and does not suit a progressive society, said Mayor Arya Rajendran. She congratulated the students who staged strong protest against the act and added that a bus shelter, with modern facilities, will be constructed for girls and boys to sit together.

Arya Rajendran’s words:

“The long seat at a bus shelter, nearby the College of Engineering Trivandrum (CET), being cut into three is inappropriate and does not suit a progressive society. In our state, there is no ban against girls and boys sitting together. If anyone feels that way, they must still be in the bullock cart age. I am congratulating the students who strongly protested in the regard. A responsive generation is our state’s hope. My personal wishes to my friends of CET who proved the same once again.

I visited there. The bus shelter is dilapidated. Not only that, it is illegal and does not have an NOC from the public works department. A bus shelter with modern facilities will be constructed there under the leadership of the corporation. It will be gender neutral. I can only sympathize with those who have not changed in accordance with time. We are with the students’ stance in this regard.”
