BHUBANESWAR: NDA candidate Draupadi Murmu’s hometown Mayurbhanj in Odisha, is all geared up for victory celebrations ahead of the presidential poll results on Thursday.
Draupadi Murmu was born and brought up in Uparbeda village, located about 280 kilometres from Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar. Murmu’s ancestral home is still here. The villagers are planning to celebrate the victory of ‘Odisha’s daughter’ by distributing around 20,000 laddoos across the state. Uparbeda residents are confident that Murmu will win and the country will get its first tribal president. Folk artists and other tribal dancers are all in the final stage of preparations for the victory celebrations.
NDA’s candidate Draupadi Murmu and opposition’s candidate Yashwant Sinha are the ones in the fray. The counting of votes had begun at 11 am on Thursday. According to reports, the results will be released by around 5 pm.

On July 18, all elected MLAs and MPs across the country had casted their votes for the presidential poll at 31 locations, including the parliament house and 30 centres within the state legislatures, from 10 am to 5 pm. Out of the total 736 electors, comprising 727 MPs and nine MLAs, who were allowed by the Election Commission (EC) to vote in the parliament house, 728 electors had casted their votes. The overall polling rate in the parliament house is 98.91 per cent.
