‘Disagree with that response, Nanjiamma got the recognition she deserved;’ Harish Sivaramakrishnan on national award controversy

Singer Harish Sivaramakrishnan criticized the objections against Nanjiamma winning the national award for best female singer for the song from the film Ayyappanum Koshyum. Harish responded that there is no intellectual distance between those who say that Nanjiamma's song is not scientific enough and those who say that rareness has been lost no matter what experiment they see, he said via a Facebook post.

The song sung by singer Nanjiamma is one of the best in her genre of music. Perhaps no one else could have sung that song with such grace, so she got the recognition she deserved. The jury said Nanjiamma is a best playback singer. Not the best singer in India. Harish noted that he disagreed with all the reactions that it was a gratis given to a tribal member and that the award was given to honour one from the tribal community in Kerala.

Music director Linu Lal had opposed conferring the national award to Nanjiamma. Though she had sung the folksong beautifully, he asked whether the song from Ayyappanum Koshyum was the best song. Linu Lal opined that she cannot sing according to the pitch.
