kk

MALAPPURAM: Moonniyur Higher Secondary School in Malappuram has approached the Supreme court alleging that the state government has denied Plus two additional batch to the district. In the plea submitted to the court, it is stated that the plus two seats in Malappuram district are insufficient. The government is discriminating against the students of the district. The plea demands to allow additional Plus two batch to the school. The school management approached the Supreme Court after the High Court Division Bench dismissed the plea raising the same demand. The High Court Single Bench had previously ordered to allot more seats, but the Division Bench stayed this order as it was a policy decision of the government.

In Malappuram district during the year 2021-22, 71,625 students passed Class 10 in the government syllabus. This year it will be close to a quarter of a lakh. But the plea states that only 65,035 plus one seats are in the district. The school management also points out that many students will face difficulty to continue their studies in the district when students from CBSE and ICSE syllabus also joins. But the total number of seats in the state is more than the number of students who passed the exam. The government has increased the number of seats in the current batches without allowing additional batches in the district. Due to this, there are more than 70 students in a class in Malappuram district while in other districts there are about 50 students studying in a class. Supreme Court lawyer Zulfiker Ali P S filed the plea in the Supreme Court for the school.
