Retirement age of homeopathic doctors: Take decision within three months, directs Supreme Court

homeo

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court has asked the Kerala government to take a decision within three months on the demand to raise the retirement age of homeopathic doctors to 60. The bench of Justice Surya Kant and Justice Abhay S Oka pointed out that retirement age is a policy decision of the government.

In 2017, the state government had raised the retirement age of allopathic doctors under the health department to 60. The Kerala Govt. Homeo Medical Officers Association has filed the plea requesting that the same benefit should be allowed to homeopathic doctors under the AYUSH department.

The Kerala Administrative Tribunal had ordered to raise the retirement age of doctors in AYUSH department to 60. The Division Bench of the High Court nullified this order. Pointing out that this is a policy decision of the government, they have directed the government to take a decision within three months. The Supreme Court upheld this and clarified that if there is any objection to the government's decision, it can be questioned in the court. The state government informed that no decision has been taken in this regard.
