THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George has announced that the National Medical Commission has given approval for 100 MBBS seats in Government Medical College, Idukki. The Minister said that the classes will start from this year.

A joint effort with proper planning was done in Idukki Medical College to obtain approval from the National Medical Commission. Necessary arrangements were made to get approval for the medical college like hiring adequate staff. The new building construction was completed and started I.P. Now that they have received approval, the government aims to bring Idukki Medical College to a higher standard like other medical colleges.

Although the previous UDF government had started Idukki Medical College, MCI had cancelled the approval in 2016 due to lack of adequate beds in hospital, academic block, accommodation facilities for students or staff and required staff. Realizing the uncertainity regarding the future of students, the LDF government transferred the students studying here to other medical colleges to ensure further studies and now regained the approval, said the Minister.
