Anganwadi children to get milk and eggs two days a week; CM to inaugurate project on Aug 1

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The menu for children in Anganwadis has been updated to include milk and eggs twice a week for their health care. This project is being introduced to address stunting and underweight among children and to achieve the goal of a hunger-free Kerala. So far, the main menu for Anganwadis comprised of grains and vegetables.

125 ml Milma milk will be provided per child at Rs 50 per litre. Milk from the local dairy society, Kudumbashree and dairy farmers can also be used.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the project on August 1 at 12 noon. The inauguration will also be held in Anganwadis in the presence of people's representatives.

Rs 31.50 crores is required to implement the project in the current year. The Department of Women and Child Development will hand over Rs 8.90 crore for five months to the District Women and Child Welfare Officers. There are about five lakh children between the ages of three and six in the 33,115 Anganwadis in the state.
