Touches girl students’ body parts under guise of training; 55-year-old physical education teacher arrested

CHENNAI: A 55-year-old physical education teacher, who sexually harassed girl students under the guise of training, was arrested on Friday. The accused has been identified as Prabhakaran, teacher of Government High School at Sugunapuram in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore district. He was arrested after parents and locals gathered in front of the school seeking action against him.

According to the police, Prabhakaran joined the school a week ago. From the next day onwards, he began touching the girl students with bad intention under the guise of training them. The students reported the matter to the head mistress, but she did not take any action against him. Following which, the parents of the girls besieged the school.

Although the Coimbatore municipal commissioner arrived at the spot and held talks, the parents were not ready to leave. However, they demanded action against the head mistress and the physical education teacher. Following which, the RDO arrived at the school and said that the issue was brought to the knowledge of district collector, who directed the educational department to suspend the teacher. Following which, Prabhakaran was arrested under POCSO case.
