Rainfall to continue in state till August 3, rain with thunder likely in 13 districts in coming hours

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a warning that there is a possibility of rain in 13 districts in the state in the next three hours. The IMD has informed that there is a possibility of thundershowers and winds gusting up to 40 kmph at isolated places in districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad and Kannur.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecasted the possibility of isolated heavy rains from July 30 to August 2 and isolated heavy rains from August 1 to August 3. Orange alert has been declared in several districts on different dates, August 1: Kottayam, Idukki, August 2: Thiruvananthapuram,Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, August 3: Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad . Chance of heavy rain at isolated places is forecast. According to IMD, Very Heavy Rainfall means 115.6 mm to 204.4 mm of rain in 24 hours.

Yellow alert has also been declared in several districts The district and the dates in which yellow alert has been issued is as follows: on July 30: Pathanamthitta, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, on July 31: Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram. On August 1: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram , Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod, on August 2 :Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragod, on August 3:Thiruvananthapuram, Kannur and Kasaragod.

Although the IMD has issued a yellow alert in some districts, due to the possibility of isolated heavy rains in the hilly areas, vigilance similar to an orange alert should be observed in the hilly areas which have received heavy rains in the past few days. The warning also states that people residing in low-lying areas, riverbanks and hilly areas prone to landslides should be extremely vigilant as the rain continues.
