Heavy rain in hilly areas of state, landslides in Moolamattom and Moonilavu, car washed away in Pathanamthitta

PATHANAMTHITTA: Heavy rain and flash floods in eastern areas of Pathanamthitta district. Water levels are rising in rivers and brooks are overflowing. Water level also rose in Achankovil river. The water level is also rising in river near areas of Koodal, Kalanjoor and Konni. Kochukoikal brook overflowed near Seethathodu. A house collapsed due to landslide in Kochukoikal 4th block.

Heavy rain continues in the state in districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam,Idukki and Pathanamthitta. The eastern region of Kottayam is experiencing heavy rains. Landslides occured in Moonilavu in Meenachil taluk. It is reported that the landslide did not occur in a residential area. The District Disaster Management Authority informed that no damage has been reported. Moonilavu town became flooded. The traffic in Mundakayam-Erumeli state highway was interrupted.

In the heavy rains, landslide occured at Kannikalmala in Moolamattom, Idukki . Manappady and Kachiramattam bridges were submerged. The landslide occurred around 6 pm. The area of origin has not been identified yet. The water flowed down through the Manappady and Kachiramattam brooks.

Four shutters of Neyyar Dam in Thiruvananthapuram were raised by two and a half centimetres due to heavy rain. The areas around Neyyar Dam receives heavy rainfall. The authorities have advised the people near the area to be cautious and have closed the tourist destinations of Ponmudi, Kallar and Mankayam.

A car was washed away as a brook overflowed at Kokkathodu in Nellikapara. The driver was rescued. A youth went missing in strong current at Palakkakavu in Pathanamthitta. Kollamulla native Adwaith is missing. Two people headed into the brook and one escaped. The search for Adwaith still continues.
