Commonwealth Games 2022: India’s medal tally rises to six, including three golds

BIRMINGHAM: India continues to clinch medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. So far, the country has won six medals, including three golds, in weightlifting.

In men’s 67 kg weightlifting finals, India’s 19-year-old Jeremy Lalrinnunga had won gold, last day. In men’s 73 kg weightlifting finals, 20-year-old Achinta Sheuli clinched gold smashing records by lifting a total of 313 kilogram. Sheuli first broke the Games record twice in the snatch round, lifting 140 kg and 143 kg. He then lifted 166 kg and 170 kg in the clean and jerk round to register a Games record for the overall weight.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won India's first gold medal in the women's 49 kg finals at the Commonwealth Games this year. In the men's 55 kg, Saket Sargar won the silver, while Gururaja Poojary secured bronze in the 61 kg category. Meantime, Bindyarani Devi won a silver medal for India in the women's 55 kg weightlifting.
