THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains are likely to lash the state till Thursday, said the meteorological department. Red alert has been declared in seven districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki.

In the wake of the ongoing heavy rains, a holiday has been announced for all the educational institutions, including professional colleges, in the districts of Pathanamthitta, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram.

In Pathanamthitta, the district collector has announced a holiday for all the educational institutions, including anganwadis and professional colleges, on Monday afternoon and Tuesday. A holiday has also been issued for educational institutions in Meenachil and Kanjirappally taluks of Kottayam and the schools in Nedumangad taluk in Thiruvananthapuram.

As rains are continuing to lash the areas that have received heavy rainfall in the past few days, people living in low-lying areas, river banks and hilly areas prone to landslides should be extra cautious, warned the authorities.
