Heavy rain continues in state; Red alert in seven districts, holiday for educational institutions in various districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rain continues in the state. Red alert has been issued in seven districts. Districts from Thiruvananthapuram to Idukki are on red alert today. Orange alert has been issued in Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur and Palakkad today.

In the wake of heavy rains lashing the state, a holiday has been declared for educational institutions including professional colleges in Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur. In Kannur, Iritty, Thalassery taluks, Kerala, MG and Kalady universities have postponed exams. There is no change in the PSC exams.

Authorities have directed fishermen not to venture into the sea. The Central Meteorological Department has warned that there is a possibility of widespread rains and isolated very heavy rains in Kerala till August 5th. Red alert has been sounded in Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Wayanad tomorrow.
