Death toll rises to 13 in heavy rain, body of man who went missing in Ithikkara River found

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of a man who went missing in Ithikkara River has been found. The body is that of Noufal, a native of Ayathil. The accident happened yesterday evening in Pallimon. The locals found his body under the Pallimon chip.

With this, the number of people who died in the floods and landslides rose to 13. Five including a two-and-a-half-year-old girl died in the torrential rains yesterday in a landslide at Nedumpuram in Kannur.

Meantime, there have been extensive damages in the heavy rains. A wall collapsed on top of a house at Paruthipara in Thiruvananthapuram. A neighbour’s wall fell on top of Mathew's house. No casualty has been reported. Houses and shops were inundated in Kottayam's Kumarakom, Chengalam, Illikkal and Thiruvarppu areas.

Traffic prohibited
Traffic has been banned at Mananthavadi pass road at Nedumpoyil in Kannur. Officials asked passengers to go via Kottiyur-Palchuram route. Visitors are banned in areas where there was a landslide.
