Teacher sentenced to 79 years of rigorous imprisonment, charged Rs 2.70 lakh fine for abusing five LP school girls

TALIPARAMBA: The Taliparamba Pocso Court sentenced a teacher to 79 years of rigorous imprisonment and charged a compensation of Rs 2.70 lakh for sexually abusing five LP school girls. PE Govindan Namboothiri, a native of Chural in Peringom's Alappadamba, was convicted by the court.

The complaint is that from June 2013 to January 2014, female students were abused in the fifth classroom of the school. The school principal and the teacher in charge of the help desk were implicated for not informing the school authorities despite getting information about the incident, but were later acquitted.

Following the incident, the teacher was removed from service. Judge P Mujeeb Rahman of Taliparamba POCSO fast track court pronounced the verdict.
