Zawahiri's assassination and Pelosi's visit

kk

The US killing of Al-Qaeda chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in a drone strike in Kabul and US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's visit to Taiwan despite China's opposition are two international events with far-reaching implications that have taken place in recent days. It was in 2011 that Osama bin Laden, the former leader of al-Qaeda, was killed by American soldiers in Abbottabad, Pakistan. Following this, Zawahiri took over the leadership of the terrorist organization. The main reason for killing bin Laden was revenge for the attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. Terrorist attacks continued to increase even after Zawahiri, an Egyptian citizen and doctor, took over the leadership. There are reports that another terrorist named Saif Al Adel will become the head of the organization after Zawahiri. Although the killing of leaders of the terrorist organization in their bases will give a political advantage to the Biden administration in America, the world is not free from the threat of terrorism. Terrorism can only be reduced if countries that provide shelter and allow terrorists to operate voluntarily think so. It was Pakistan that helped bin Laden to stay in hiding. Later, it was revealed that Pakistan was behind the information about bin Laden's hideout to the United States. They also used Laden's killing as an opportunity to seek massive financial assistance from the United States. It is obvious to anyone that the United States could not have killed Zawahiri without the cooperation of Pakistan and Afghanistan. The peace-loving people of the world generally welcome the killing of terrorist leaders who have caused the death of thousands of innocent people through explosions and bombings. However, they are also worried that terrorist activities may continue to increase. Therefore, the need of the hour is for the United Nations to take the initiative and adopt peaceful means of reconciliation and discussion to avoid the menace of terrorism. India can also play a crucial role in that.

There is no doubt that Pelosi's visit to Taiwan will further worsen already strained China-US relations. Nancy's visit is likely to further infuriate China at a time when the world has raised concerns over China ramping up its military buildup in the sea around Taiwan. China has warned that those who play with fire will perish by it. The ongoing Ukraine-Russia war and the escalation of China-Taiwan tensions are leading to the biggest conflict since World War II. We have to wait and see what the outcome will be in the coming days. It is not auspicious that the world is moving towards more unrest after Covid.
