mp

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Roshy Augustine said that the rains are decreasing in the surrounding areas of Mullaperiyar and Idukki dams. He was speaking after the review meeting related to the water level in the dams. 'The rule curve in Mullaperiyar is 137.5 feet till August 10. The current water level is 134.85 feet. Last year at the same time it was 136.3 feet. So there is no need to open the dam.

Yesterday, there was 2375.53 feet of water in Idukki, which is four feet more than last year. Now it is 1012.565 million cubic meters of water. This is only 69 percent of the storage capacity. Therefore there is no need to worry. Soil, sand and clay have been removed from the rivers to help control the floods. This will be continued in February every year. This will significantly control the floods in the coming years', said the minister.
