Holiday was declared to avoid untoward incidents; Collector Renu comes with an explanation amidst criticisms

KOCHI: Ernakulam District Collector Renu Raj said a holiday was declared for educational institutions due to the incessant rain that started last night and to avoid any untoward accidents. Her explanation was via a Facebook post.

The collector announced the holiday at 8:30 am. Most of the children had left homes before that. With this, there was widespread protests on social media. Meanwhile, the collector came forward with an explanation. Meantime, Renu Raj informed that schools which have already started functioning need not be closed and students should not be sent back.

‘It was an awful holiday announcement', 'madam, are you saying that classes should be conducted with the five students out of the 50,’ ‘whom am I to reach school again in the heavy rains,’ many comments were seen under the collector’s post.
