NEW DELHI: Taking a dig at the BJP leadership, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said, history stands witness that those who are running the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign have come from an organisation which did not hoist the tricolour for 52 years. The leader’s remarks were aimed at the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). Rahul Gandhi made the comments after his visit to Karnataka Khadi Village Industries in Hubli.

Taking to Twitter, Rahul Gandhi said, “It was a great pleasure to meet all the workers who weave our tricolour at Karnataka Khadi Village Industries located in Hubli, Karnataka today. Lakhs of countrymen sacrificed their lives to keep the tricolour always high, but one organisation always refused to adopt the tricolour, did not hoist the tricolour at its headquarters in Nagpur for 52 years and continuously humiliated it”.

“Today, people coming out of the same organisation are telling the history of the tricolour and running a 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign. Why did RSS not hoist the tricolour at its headquarters for 52 years? Why is the livelihood of those who make the national flag out of Khadi being destroyed? Why was the import of machine-made, polyester flags allowed from China?" he added.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had changed his profile photo to a picture of Jawaharlal Nehru holding the national flag. Several BJP leaders had expressed criticisms against the post.
