THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin seeking regulation of water in the Mullaperiyar dam. The chief minister requested to increase the quantity of water taken from Mullaperiyar Dam. In the letter, the chief minister mentioned that the water level in Mullaperiyar is nearing 136 feet and if the rains continue, there will be a huge increase in the amount of water reaching the dam.
'Adjustments should be made in the amount of water taken to Tamil Nadu to keep the level of water in the dam at a safe point. Steps should be taken to carry more water than the flow to the dam. Warning should be given at least 24 hours before opening the dam. Only then can we ensure the safety of the people living below the dam,’ the chief minister mentioned in the letter.
