kk

IDUKKI: More shutters of the Mullaperiyar dam were opened on Friday as the water flow increased due to heavy rains. Four more shutters of the dam were opened when the water level reached 137.70 feet. With this, the number of shutters opened at Mullaperiyar dam has increased to ten.

The shutters of many dams in the state were opened due to the rise in water levels. While four shutters of Malampuzha Dam and three shutters of Thenmala Dam were opened, the shutters of Peechi Dam, which was opened earlier, were raised further. The authorities have clarified that there is no flood scare as the dams were opened this time with caution.

Meanwhile, there has been a slight relief for the state with the rain declining today. An orange alert is still in place in eight districts from Idukki to Kasaragod. Alerts have been withdrawn in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam. A yellow alert has been sounded in Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam and Ernakulam. Nearly 7000 people are staying in 221 relief camps in various districts.
