Woman falls to depth of 70 m as car overturns, falls into river while getting out, river current takes her to nearby hospital

IDUKKI: A woman miraculously escaped from a car that overturned and fell 70 metres to a river bank. Anu Maheswaran, wife of Cheruthoni resident Maheswaran, survived the fall and a freak accident soon after. The accident happened around 7:30 pm on Thursday.

Anu was going home in Cheruthoni from Thangamani. There was no one else in the car. As the vehicle approached Mariyapuram, she had to suddenly steer the car to avoid hitting a speeding vehicle coming from the opposite direction. With this, the car went out of control and overturned and eventually reached the bank of the river.

Injured Anu slowly got out of the car and fell into the river after stepping out of car. She floated about a hundred metres but somehow managed to get ashore by holding on to the grass. She reached the shore to find that it was behind Mariyapuram PHC.
