The central government is now in a desperate effort to bring back BSNL, a public sector telecom company that once shined at the top and then fell into the pit of losses. A package of Rs 1.64 lakh crore has been announced for this. But the government has given a clear message to the company while sanctioning the project. 'Do what is expected of you or pack up' is Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's message to BSNL employees.
Vaishnaw has asked the employees to shed the 'sarkari' attitude as those who do not perform as per expectations will be forced out of the job. Recently, the Centre came up with a massive revival package of Rs 1.64 lakh crore for BSNL. The Minister explained the Centre's policy in a meeting with the high-level officials of the company in this regard. BSNL will launch 4G service soon, which is expected to end the company's woes. BSNL also plans to switch to 5G by next year.
