Man arrested for beating up 19-year-old in Kollam

KOLLAM: A 19-year-old was brutally beaten up by a man in Kollam for allegedly speaking badly and insulting him in a WhatsApp group. The 19-year-old, who hails from Vallikkunnam in Alappuzha, is undergoing treatment. Police have arrested Kollam Pooyappally native Rahul for beating up the 19-year-old youth.

Rahul attacked the 19-year-old after summoning him and forcing him to touch his feet. The incident took place on August 1. The incident came to light after a video footage of the incident surfaced.

Rahul had called the youth to Karunagappally on the pretext of delivering a courier. He then took him to a secluded place and brutally beat him. The footage of the incident was later circulated by Rahul and others on social media. The Karunagappally police, who noticed the video, conducted an investigation under the leadership of CI Gopakumar and arrested Rahul from Thenmala. Rahul is an accused in many criminal cases, including rape and kidnapping. The police had earlier declared him as a fugitive
