Continuously crying after ‘noolukettu’, woman throws baby to death in Alappuzha

HARIPAD: A woman threw her 48-day-old baby into a well in Alappuzha. 26-year-old Deepthi committed the crime as she was unable to bear the cries of the baby.

Haripad station house officer O Shyam Kumar said that she had given a statement saying that the baby used to cry continuously after the ‘noolukettu’. She told police that she threw the baby into the well as she was restless after the baby cried non-stop on Saturday. She was subjected for a counselling.

Deepthi suffering from some mental illness, is undergoing treatment in the mental health department of Vandanam Medical College. The police, who first filed a case for unnatural death, charges murder offence after confirmed that the child was killed. Deepthi's arrest will be registered as soon as she is discharged from the mental health centre.

The baby was brought dead to the Haripad Government Hospital on Saturday afternoon. Relatives said the baby fell into a bucket of water while bathing. After becoming suspicious, the hospital authorities informed the police. The relatives were firm on their statement.

When the post-mortem was conducted on Sunday at the Vandanam Medical College Hospital, it was confirmed that the baby was drowned in water. The woman confessed to the crime when in a detailed interrogation.
