THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Swapna Suresh, accused in the gold smuggling case, alleged that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan intervened to acquit an UAE citizen held in Nedumbassery in 2017 with a Thuraya satellite phone. The CISF had lodged a complaint against this person for keeping a banned phone in his hand. The Nedumbassery police had registered a case but he got bail. Swapna alleged that Sivasankar and the chief minister intervened in it.

Her words
‘A call came to the consulate saying that a citizen of UAE was nabbed by the Nedumbassery police. The consul general soon called me and asked me to inform the chief minister. The reason was that the chief minister had directed us to inform him if such incidents occur. Immediately called Sivasankar Sir and within ten minutes he called back and demanded to send the PRO there. The detained was an Egyptian. He came to Kozhikode from Abu Dhabi and his plan was to escape from there. He was in the safe custody of the police for two days and then was acquitted without any further probe. What he did in Kerala in those days is unknown and no probe was conducted, she said.
