Water level in Idukki dam rises, drops to 139.15 feet in Mullaperiyar dam

IDUKKI: The water level in Idukki Dam is not receding. The water level presently is 2387.38 feet. Three and a half lakh litres of water is flowing out every second. Thadiyambad Chappath region is under water due to huge water inflow from the dam. In this case, a decision will be taken today whether to differ the amount of water released.


Meantime, the water level in Mullaperiyar dam has decreased slightly. The current water level is 139.15 feet. As the rainfall in the catchment area decreased, the water flow in the dam decreased. Thirteen shutters were raised ninety centimetres each and ten thousand cubic feet of water flows out per second. 85 families have been relocated. 140 people are staying in the relief camp.


Alert on Periyar coast
With the opening of the Idamalayar dam, the banks of Periyar are on alert. The district administration has informed that there is no need to worry as the rain has receded. Authorities have instructed various departments to take precautionary measures.

Walayar Dam will be opened today
The water level in the Kalpathi River will rise as the Walayar dam will be opened. The authorities have advised people living on the coast to be careful.
