DEHRADUN: The ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign as part of the 75th Independence Day celebrations ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ has begun on Saturday. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand BJP chief Mahendra Bhatt has directed the party activists to take pictures of houses that are not hoisting the national flag. The leader’s move has sparked a controversy in the state.
Bhatt made his remark at a party event in Haldwani on Wednesday. “People won't see owners of those houses with trust where the tricolour is not hoisted this Independence Day... Get me photographs of those houses where the tricolour is not hoisted. People would like to see who is a nationalist and who isn't”, he said.
As his remarks turned controversial, Bhatt came forward with an explanation. He claimed that his remarks were meant only for party workers as he wanted each one of them to respond to the prime minister’s call.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called upon the nation to hoist national flags in front of houses from August 13 to 15, as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign.
