Favorable stance by Chief Minister; four deputy collector post for acquisition of surplus land

ii

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is indicated that the Chief Minister has taken a positive stand on the recommendation of the Revenue Department to create the post of four Deputy Collectors with independent region wise duties to quickly settle the pending cases related to the acquisition of surplus land. This will speed up the process. Minister K Rajan brought it to the attention of the Chief Minister after the Finance Department did not take a positive stand.

1295 cases since 1970 are pending in taluk offices. 3,325.61 hectares of land have to be acquired. The cases are more in the districts from Ernakulam to Kasaragod. Presently these cases are handled and reported by the Deputy Collectors in charge of the Taluk Land Board. They do not get enough time for this as they have heavy responsibilities. So such a recommendation was raised to appoint Deputy Collectors on a regional basis to dispose of the case.
