THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has invited the fishermen, who are protesting against the construction of Vizhinjam port, for a discussion. Minister for Fisheries V Abdurahiman spoke to Samara Samiti leader and Vicar General Eugene Perera over the phone. The discussion will take place on Friday. Minister Antony Raju will consult with the agitators and decide the time and venue for the discussion.
"This is a problem that needs to be solved in Kerala. Department of Fisheries is ready for discussion at any time. The discussion will take place when the agitators arrive. The government is not ignoring the protest. We hope that the protesters will understand the matter and withdraw," minister Abdurahiman said.
Coastal residents allege that the Vizhinjam project is not proceeding on the basis of proper study and the reason for coastal erosion is Adani's construction of Vizhinjam port.
