KANNUR: The governor is gearing up to take drastic action against Kannur University vice chancellor Gopinath Ravindran. The governor has received legal advice that the VC has violated the rules by publicly announcing that he will take legal action against the Governor, who is in charge of appointing the VC, and convening a Syndicate meeting for legal action. It is assessed that there has been a serious lapse on the part of the Vice Chancellor. Sources close to Raj Bhavan said that action will be taken against the Vice Chancellor as soon as the governor returns from New Delhi. The governor will return to Kerala on August 25.
The reason for the action is the public reactions and interviews given by VC Gopinath Ravindran against the Governor's action in connection with the appointment of Priya Varghese, wife of Chief Minister's Private Secretary KK Ragesh. The VC had publicly announced that he would take legal action would against the governor. He had convened a syndicate meeting for this purpose.
