LDF retains rule in Mattannur municipality; UDF makes unexpected breakthrough by winning double seats

KANNUR: The LDF has retained its rule in the Mattannur municipality. After three rounds of vote counting, the LDF won 21 seats, while the UDF secured 14 seats. UDF candidate Umaiba teacher has won in Aanikkara, the fifth ward of the municipality. Last time, the Congress had won four seats and Muslim League had secured three seats in the region. However, the UDF has won double the seats than before.

A total of 111 candidates had contested for 35 seats. Out of 35 wards, 18 wards were reserved for women and one ward for scheduled castes. The counting of votes was held at Mattannur Higher Secondary School. There were no postal votes this time.
