KABUL: According to reports, crime rates have gone up in Afghanistan since the Taliban took over in August last year. A recent murder of an elderly cab driver is an example of the same.

Reportedly, a 64-year-old taxi driver was abducted by armed thieves while he was driving his cab on August 19. His body was found in Mazar-e-Sharif’s police district 10, the next morning. An investigation is underway into the incident. However, no one has been arrested by the police yet.

A few days ago, a teacher from Nangarhar was killed in Jalalabad city. He was stabbed to death by a thief. In another incident, a group of four people had reportedly burnt a man alive on August 5.

Since the Taliban seized power in Afghanistan, the country is currently experiencing its highest rate of unemployment and poverty. Owing to these reasons, suicides and interpersonal disputes are also on the rise. The country is moving through a huge humanitarian crisis as well. According to international assessments, there are more than 23 million people in need of assistance in the country.

Despite the end of war in the country, serious human rights violations against women, children and minorities are continuing in the nation. Millions of Afghans are living on the brink of starvation as the country grapples with a humanitarian crisis.
