Retired teacher loses Rs 21 lakh by opening a WhatsApp message, hacks bank account

AMARAVATI: A complaint has been filed for extorting money from a retired teacher through WhatsApp message. Retired teacher Varalakshmi, a resident of Annamayya district in Andhra Pradesh became a victim of fraud.

Last day, Varalakshmi received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number. When she opened the message, there was a link attached to it. She clicked the link but it didn't open. Later Varalakshmi forgot about this. After this several transactions of money withdrawals has been made in this account. The teacher lost Rs 21 lakh through this.

Varalakshmi contacted the bank as soon as she found out about the withdrawal and authorities confirmed that the money was lost from the account. It was also found that her account had been hacked. Although a complaint was filed with the police, no information about the accused was received so far, so the investigation reached a standstill.
