Arjun Ayanki arrested from Kannur in gold snatching case

KANNUR: Arjun Ayanki, the accused in gold smuggling case has been arrested by Kondotty police from Peringome, Kannur. The case filed is that he tried to snatch and smuggle gold with the help of the carrier. Four people, including a former CPM municipal councillor, were arrested in the case. Arjun is the first accused in the case.

Arjun, a former DYFI activist, is accused in several other gold snatching cases. Arjun and his gang used to snatch the smuggled gold from the carrier by influence, attack or by threatening . For this, Ayanki was in contact with T P murder case accused Kodi Suni and Shafi and also with Shuhaib murder case accused Akash Thillankeri.

Arjun is also the main accused in the Karipur gold smuggling case. KAAPA was charged against him, but it was canceled later. The decision was taken by the KAAPA Advisory Board. The action was taken considering the appeal filed by Arjun Ayanki showing that there were no cases against him after 2017 and the previous cases were filed while he was a CPM worker. The order stated that there were no other cases against Arjun after 2017 and that the customs case would not come under the purview of KAAPA and there were no sufficient grounds to impose Goonda act.
