Kasaragod coach sentenced to 36 years in prison for sexually abusing minor boy

KASARAGOD: A court sentenced a coach, who sexually abused a minor boy, to 36 years in prison. A fine of Rs 1 lakh was also imposed. If the fine is not paid, he will have to undergo additional imprisonment of eleven months.

The incident on which the case is based took place in December 2018. The accused, who is a volleyball coach, took the child to show the state youth volleyball championship match. The abuse took place at the lodge in Cherupuzha.

PV Balan (68), a native of Pariaram, subjected this 12-year-old boy to unnatural abuse. The man was sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment for unnatural abuse and 26 years of rigorous imprisonment under two sections of the POCSO Act. The imprisonment will run concurrently. The accused was sentenced by Hosdurg Fast Track Special Court Judge C Suresh Kumar.
