Landslide in Vellara Colony, Kannur; strong flash flood in two places

KANNUR: Landslide and flash floods were reported again in the district due to heavy rainfall. Landslide occured in Vellara colony. There was severe flash floods on Mananthavady pass road and Nedumpoil pass road. Police informed that people are being evacuated from here.

It is indicated that there was a strong landslide in the forest near Elapeedika. Traffic into Karnataka was partially disrupted here due to heavy flashflood, but it has now resumed. People on the banks of Kanjirapuzha have been warned.

There were landslides in Kannur district yesterday also. Landslides occurred in Nedumpoil, Kannur and Vilangad in Kozhikode district yesterday. The bridge in Vilangad town submerged and water rushed into the nearby shops. The situation turned normal during today morning. The hilly areas of the districts which have received heavy rain in the last few days are on high alert due to the possibility of landslides and flash floods.
