Millions of people in Pakistan have been badly affected due to unprecedented floods, the worst in a decade, and are desperately in need of help as toll touched 1,136 on Tuesday. The unusually strong monsoon rains had already left a trail of disaster across Pakistan as the death toll in the country crossed the 1,000 mark on Monday. In his first statement on the floods in Pakistan, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he was “saddened” to see the devastation and “hoped for an early restoration of normalcy”. Discussions are underway at the highest levels on the possibility of extending humanitarian assistance to Pakistan.
But even after such a sincere response from india, Pakistan has come up with its cynical attitude. It seems like they are seeing India’s help as a very normal diplomatic attitude shown by any country to other country during crisis period. Pakistan’s spokesperson has said that although Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has tweeted a message of sympathy for the floods ravaging his country, he does not expect the disaster to lead to better relations with India while it is “logical” in these circumstances for countries to “set aside other considerations and to express support and solidarity”.
