NEW DELHI: Be careful while spending money in the national capital, Delhi. Chances of getting fake notes are really high. According to the latest data from the National Crime Records Bureau, there has been a huge increase in the number of fake Indian currency notes in Delhi in 2021. The police have seized 50,000 fake currencies in 2021.
Several gangs operating at the state and international levels are supplying fake currency in Delhi. Counterfeit notes made within the country are from Bihar, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh and other countries Bangladesh, Nepal and Pakistan reaches here. Delhi has recorded a 1342 per cent increase in cases of seizure of fake currency.
According to the Delhi Police, counterfeit notes are arriving in Delhi from Gulf countries by air and from neighboring countries through borders. Last year, 50,151 fake Indian currencies worth Rs 2.05 crore were seized. The smugglers are trading Rs 1 lakh notes for Rs 40,000. Most of the smuggled notes were of Rs 100 and Rs 500.
