Youth held for trying to smuggle gold of more than a kilo

MALAPPURAM: Ummer Farooq (26), a carrier and a native of Kuruva in Kannur, who tried to smuggle 1.017 kg of gold in capsule form, was caught by the police. Umar Farooq arrived at Karipur airport at 9 am yesterday morning on Air India IX-356 flight from Dubai.

He admitted to have hidden gold in his body when taken to the aid post and questioned on suspicion. Gold in four capsules were found hidden in his body when he was subjected to an X-ray examination. He has been handed over to the Karipur police.
