THRISSUR: The death of a child after being bitten by a stray dog in Pathanamthitta is painful, said Health Minister Veena George. After bringing the child to the medical college, instructions were given to provide all possible treatment. A medical board was formed for this purpose. Expert doctors also examined the child, she said.

If there has been any lapse at Perinad Hospital in matters, including rabies and virus problems, an investigation will be conducted. Deaths due to poisoning should not have happened. A joint meeting was held between the local government department, animal welfare and health departments and an action plan was formulated. It was decided to give immediate importance to the implementation of the ABC scheme in 30 blocks and later implement it everywhere. The entire matter will be examined, including the concern related to the vaccine, added the minister.

Meantime, Congress leader Ramesh Chennithala said that the health ministry has the moral responsibility for the death of the 12-year-old girl in Ranni. The minister did not take the incident seriously even though it is her own district. The quality of the vaccine remains questionable as the girl could not be saved even after being administered with three vaccines, said Chennithala.
