Milkshake mixed with cannabis seeds in Kozhikode; Narcotics squad finds drug route

KOZHIKODE: During a search conducted by the Enforcement and Anti-Narcotics Special Squad at the juice stalls in Gujarati Street, it has been found that cannabis seeds were converted into oil, mixed in milkshake and sold in the area. Around 200 ml liquid, mixed with hempseed oil and cannabis seed, were seized from the juice stalls. A case has been registered against the stall as per the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

The seed oil has been sent to the Kozhikode regional chemical lab for testing. Further action will be taken after getting the test results, said assistant excise commissioner N Sugunan. The cannabis seeds are brought from Delhi. The excise department suspects that more such firms are operating in the state. The excise team is also monitoring whether more students are coming to the institution. Further action will be taken after receiving the chemical test results.

The inspection was based on a complaint lodged with the excise commissioner that a juice stall operating on Gujarati Street was selling shakes using the seed of cannabis plant and details about such shakes were being circulated via social media. The search was conducted by Kozhikode Enforcement Narcotics Squad, led by circle inspector V R Girish Kumar, as instructed by the Kozhikode deputy excise commissioner.
