THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Widespread rains are likely to lash the state for the next five days. Currently, there is a cyclonic vortex present over the Comorin region and the adjacent areas of Maldives. Meantime, another cyclonic vortex is likely to form over the central-eastern Bay of Bengal by Wednesday. It is likely to intensify into a low pressure region in the next 48 hours, warned the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Isolated heavy rains are likely to lash the state on Tuesday and Wednesday. Red alert has been declared in the districts of Ernakulam, Malappuram, Idukki and Kozhikode. Whereas, orange alert has been declared in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Thrissur, Palakkad and Wayanad. The rest of the districts are in yellow alert.
Meanwhile, orange alert has been issued in 12 districts, from Pathanamthitta till Kasaragod, on Wednesday. Revenue Minister K Rajan has instructed the fishermen not to venture into sea until further notice.
