ISMALABAD: We have read news of thefts in moving buses and trains. However, there has been a massive theft in a flight as well. 1,542 grams of gold was stolen during a flight from Dubai to Karachi. The stolen gold was brought from Dubai by a famous Pakistani jeweller. The gold was stolen from a Pakistani jeweller’s cabin baggage. The incident happened Sunday afternoon.

The traveler was legally bringing back half the value of the legally exported jewellery in the form of gold from Pakistan. The gold was owned by Naurattan Jewelers in Karachi. The jeweller said that during the flight, 1.5 kg of gold was found missing from the bag kept in the aircraft’s cabin. This was informed to the cabin crew. When the plane landed in Karachi, a search was conducted but no gold was recovered. A thorough search of all the passengers failed to find the gold. The passenger had informed the customs authorities in advance about the gold carrying to Pakistan.

The officials said the theft may have occurred at the time of departure from Dubai International Airport. The customs officials said the gold was confirmed during the flight and that it was stolen inflight.
