India, China troops begin disengagement from standoff point in eastern Ladakh, to be completed by Monday

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs has said that the disengagement of troops from the Gogra-Hotspring area of ​​eastern Ladakh will be completed by September 12. The decision was taken after the sixteenth round of discussions between the corps commanders of the two countries. The meeting was held on July 17, 2022 at Chushul Moldo Point.

A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs also said that after the 16th round of talks, the two sides were in regular contact to resolve issues related to the Line of Control in the India-China border areas. As a result, both sides have agreed to withdraw from the Gogra-Hotspring area. Both countries have decided to withdraw their troops from the region in a phased manner.

The reaction of the Ministry of External Affairs came after the two armies announced that they were withdrawing from the Gogra-Hotspring area where the two armies had been in conflict for more than two years. All temporary constructions made by both armies will be demolished and the area returned to its pre-conflict status. The Ministry said that the Line of Actual Control in the region will be strictly monitored and assured under the agreement that there will be no unilateral change in the status quo.
