KOCHI: Preliminary assessment by ballistic experts is that the fisherman got shot from the land. The incident happened one and a half kilometres away from the Navy's training centre INS Dronacharya. It is believed that the shots were fired from the land to the west of Dronacharya's 'Firing Butt'. It has not been confirmed whether it was from a naval gun.
On Saturday morning, ballistic experts reached Kochi coast to assess the possibilities. Sebastian (72), a resident of Andhakaranazhi, was shot on Wednesday while returning after fishing. He is under treatment. The police have found that training was conducted at Dronacharya on the day of the incident. The police have asked the Navy to produce the five guns that were used then.
He was shot at a distance of one and a half kilometres in the sea facing the shooting range. The bullet belongs to the INSAS machine gun. Navy uses such guns. However, the Navy is of the stance that the firing occurred not from the training centre.
