Body of third person missing after snake boat capsizes, found

ALAPPUZHA: The body of the third person who went missing after the palliyodam in Chennithala capsized while scheduled to leave for Aranmula. Navy divers recovered the body of Rakesh (45) of Chennithala from the mid of Achenkovil River. With this, the death toll in the Chennithala accident has risen to three.


The accident happened when the palliyodam was holding a procession in the river at Valiyaperumbuzha Kadavu. It capsized before its departure to Aranmula to participate in the Aranmula Uthrittathi boat race. As a customary ritual, the boat usually participates in a procession. In the meantime, the boat overturned a little off the kadavu.


The bodies of Adithyan (18), son of Satheesan of Chennithala and Vineesh (38) of Manassery, Cherukolpuzha, were recovered yesterday.


There were a total of 61 people in the palliyodam. Some of them lay by catching hold of the palliyodam. Small boats from nearby places arrived and rescued many people. Soon after receiving the information that the three had gone missing, the locals and scuba divers fished out the body of Adithyan at 11 am. The body of Vineesh was recovered by 12.45 pm.
